The David Schlosser Memorial Wrestling Scholarship
Dear Scholarship Applicant,
David Schlosser was a 2002 Redmond High School graduate. He had an intensity and passion for life and for wrestling. His constant smile, even in difficult times inspired others to be their best and to work to achieve their goals. He wrestled throughout his life: first in clubs, then in junior high and high school. He had great success as a wrestler (receiving the most inspirational award his junior year, Captain his senior year, King County Journal Athlete of the Week, and named Outstanding Wrestler at several tournaments) but even more, he was able to share his love for the sport and motivate others to be their best. He assisted with junior high wrestling programs and served as a role model to many. He demonstrated athletic skill, teamwork, leadership, humility, perseverance, and love of all sports. David received his private pilot’s license at 17 years of age and followed that interest to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, AZ. David loved to fly, and as a Chief Flight Instructor he loved even more teaching others and sharing in their successes. David continued his love of wrestling in Arizona where he coached a local junior high team. On July 15, 2007, a plane crash took David’s life. Through this devastating tragedy, friends and family have helped to raise funds to provide this scholarship to an individual who possesses the traits and love of wrestling that David did. The David Schlosser Memorial Wrestling Scholarship has been affiliated with the ECHO Community Foundation www.echocf.org. In August of 2004, five recent college graduates with varying skill sets and educational experiences decided to establish a not-for-profit organization whose purpose was to give back to their community. Those five individuals were all Redmond High School graduates. The name of ECHO is an acronym for Everyone Can Help Out, the foundational concept of the organization. Through various fundraising events, ECHO has raised funds to support scholarships to assist college bound students achieve their academic goals. Included in this packet is an application announcement with further information about this scholarship and an official scholarship application. Please note that all required materials must be submitted by March 1, 2013 with a final award notification on May 1, 2013. We look forward to the selection and award of this scholarship to someone who demonstrates the traits and love of wrestling that David did.
